Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Political Bureau and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, meets the National Ethnic Affairs Commission’s ‘National Ethnic Minorities Study Tour’; Ruxianguli, an outstanding ethnic-minority artist from Happy Valley Shenzhen, speaks on behalf of the delegates

On the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day golden week, the national ethnic minority study group organized by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission held its programme. The group of more than 100 people — national model individuals for ethnic unity and progress, national models in poverty alleviation, and frontline grassroots representatives from border areas who had made outstanding contributions to patriotic border defence — travelled to Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Beijing and other places under the theme "Study and implement the spirit of the Party's 20th National Congress in depth, experience the great achievements of the new era, and forge a stronger sense of community for the Chinese nation". Ruxianguli, assistant artistic director of the Happy Valley Shenzhen tourism company and a well-known magician, was invited to take part, and on 29 September she and other members of the group were received by Wang Huning, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee; Shi Taifeng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee; State Councillor Shen Yiqin; and other leaders, and she spoke at the meeting.

In her remarks Ruxianguli briefly recalled how she began learning her art at the age of seven in her home city of Kashgar, Xinjiang, and at 28 set out for Happy Valley Shenzhen, where she has now worked for 25 years. From the country's frontier to the coastal interior, from the foot of the Tianshan to the front line of reform and opening up, she said, as an ethnic minority magician she has lived through the sweeping, day-by-day changes of her great country; in her work at OCT and Happy Valley Shenzhen she has felt the spirit of friendship with which brothers and sisters of every ethnic group unite, help one another and face difficulties head-on, and she has seen the rich fruits of Happy Valley Shenzhen's commitment to integrating culture and tourism and of more than twenty years of building a platform where cultural workers and the arts of magic and acrobatics can be nurtured, innovate, exchange, develop and come together. She said she would go on working in her own post as a promoter of China's fine traditional culture, continuing to tell well the stories of China, of Xinjiang, of Shenzhen and of OCT.
